We may sound like a broken record, but it really doesn’t take traveling very far to get those full-on, “We’re on vacay” vibes. Case in point: our recent overnight in Glastonbury at the Connecticut River Valley Inn. Funny fact: We think this was our first time in Glastonbury! Crazy!
What finally got us there? An invite to spend the night in this gorgeous 1740s home smack in the middle of the historic district. A beautiful inn, gardens, art, a pool, AND the Connecticut River practically out the back door? We’re in!
Your Next, “Wait, This Is in Connecticut?” Getaway
Welcome! Let us show you around The CT River Valley Inn!

Step Inside a Little Piece of History
Our lives are pretty much go, go, go, so when we get the chance to slow down, catch up on blog “work,” and explore a beautiful place to stay right here in our own state, we’re not exactly hard to convince.
The Connecticut River Valley Inn blends the charm of a pre-Revolutionary War property with beautiful modern touches. Each room and suite has its own unique decor, and Pat, the inn’s owner, is an artist herself. Her work is sprinkled throughout the property, and she even has a cute little pop-up shop tucked into the gardens.
And OMG, those gardens. There’s plants and art around every corner, cozy places to sit, a new lap-length pool, and plenty of spots that make you want to slow down.

Park Once. Wander. Eat. Repeat.
We LOVE a boutique inn where you can park the car and actually leave it parked!
The Connecticut River is just a five-minute stroll away, with direct access from the property or a short walk along Main Street to the Riverfront Park entrance. And let us tell you – the park felt like something straight out of a movie. Beautiful views along the river, rowers rowing, a peaceful walking path, and everyone seemed to say hello to us as we wandered by. Consider us, Glastonbury fans!

Us, in a Nutshell
This pic says it all. We plan on getting so much done…
Dinner was a short walk away at Bin 228 Wine Bar & Gastropub, where we ordered roasted corn cauliflower pizza, stuffed pancetta, gorgonzola dates, and truffle fries. Add 1.5 cocktails and a very giggly walk home and…yep. This is our kind of getaway.

Breakfast With a Side of Garden Envy
The next morning, we settled into breakfast in one of the inn’s many cozy spaces – or you can eat outside under the awning surrounded by Pat’s gorg plants.
Pat served up homemade granola and a garden-tomato frittata while we chatted with her and some of the other guests. After breakfast, Pat’s husband, Wayne showed us two more lodging options on the property, perfect for anyone looking to come for an artist retreat or group getaway.
Then we parked ourselves beside the pool for a bit, taking in the view of two gorgeous weeping willows Pat and Wayne planted when they first moved here in 2005.

The Little Things Make the Stay
Pat clearly knows hospitality because she’s thought of all the little things: robes, plush towels, pillowy bedding, umbrellas to borrow, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, games, and books in the communal spaces.
The inn is also pet-friendly and hosts everything from weddings and celebrations to business stays and retreats.
So whether you’re planning a staycation or bringing friends in from out of state, add the Connecticut River Valley Inn to your list. We’re already plotting our next excuse to get back to Glastonbury!
