Harraseeket Inn – Freeport, ME

Day two of our ME-cation would be spent in Freeport, Maine. A quick 30-minute drive from Portland (read about that here) we arrived and checked into The Harraseeket Inn. An award-winning luxury country inn; it’s just two blocks from the L.L.Bean campus, with an entire village of over 110 outlets, and many cool boutiques. With fireplaces, antiques, jacuzzis, an indoor pool, and 2 awesome restaurants to choose from, it’s THE place to stay in Freeport. We were very happy bloggers! Here are our steps to a perfect day in Freeport, Maine.

And we LOVED this surprise in our room, with a handwritten thank you note from the Gray family.

The infamous Chip Gray

We met the infamous Chip Gray, General Manager at The Harraseeket Inn. Chip took some time out of his busy schedule to sit by the fire and tell us a little bit about the inn’s history.  Opened in 1984 by Chip’s mother, Nancy Dyer Gray, Chip described watching his mom build the Harraseeket from the ground up. He entertained us with great stories about a certain pop star who used to be a regular at the Inn, back when her child attended school locally. I have no idea why I just started humming “If I could turn back time…”

Step two

Go shopping! When you stay at the Harraseeket Inn, everything is at your doorstep. We suggest heading over to the L.L. Bean campus.  Once fully dressed in Bean, go to the boot for the perfect photo op!

Step three

Take advantage of the L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery School while you’re in town. Life is an adventure, and L.L. Bean helps facilitate every outdoor adventure you can imagine. Snow-shoeing, kayaking, hiking, bird watching, stand up paddle boarding, and so many more – we checked out geocaching. Read all about it here. Classes are very reasonably priced!

Step four

Back at the Inn after a busy day of shopping and geocaching, take advantage of the fact that they house 2 award-winning restaurants. The Maine Harvest Dining Room for classic dining, or The Broad Arrow Tavern for a more casual meal. We enjoyed an excellent meal in the very charming and cozy, Maine Dining Room.

Step five

Get some shut-eye – you have to go home tomorrow 🙁
