Hotel Zero Degrees

This week’s “Getaway” brings us to Hotel Zero Degrees in Danbury, a mere 20 minutes or so from our respective homes. Regardless of the short distance, this little staycation made us feel like we had traveled much farther. The moment we stepped through the glass sliding doors into the boutique hotel’s stunning lobby – we felt as if we had been teleported to some uber-modern Euro-lodge. Ready? Set? Getaway!

So ver’ cool!

The front desk is cool, the lobby furnishings are cool, the lighting is cool, the rooms are super cool, the gym is ….everything is just so cool! We believe we muttered those “describing” words about 30-40 times during our stay.

The lobby area is set up like an eclectic great room with a wall of floor to ceiling windows and a striking fireplace as a focal point. There are many varied seating arrangements to choose from – just pick the set up that speaks to you!

WARNING: You may feel inspired to go home and redecorate after a stay at Hotel Zero Degrees! Or at least buy a new groovy chair.

The rooms…

We each had an Executive Suite room. As with the other guest rooms, each one is similarly separated into different “zones.” The executive suites have a “wind-down” zone with sitting area and TV in case you want to just hang out. A kitchenette, counter space, and everything you might need for in-room cooking (that didn’t happen!). A productive area with a desk on wheels in case you wanted to do some work. And of course, the sleeping zone – a king bedroom with a 50″ flat-screen Smart TV separated by a sliding barn door.

And awesome wallpaper. We were obsessed.

Lora named this “solar-eclipse” lighting. Pretty….cool, huh?

The area…

Hotel Zero in Danbury is near a lot of things cultural, sporty, and important…but we opted for a quick shopping spree at the Danbury mall (and don’t let anyone ever tell you that shopping isn’t important). The Danbury Fair Mall is just a few minutes away – 6.5 minutes from suite to Sephora, to be precise…where we ran into Ronnie Spector from The Ronettes! We sang, “Be My Baby” for the rest of the night and into the next day.

Our stay…

Drinks and nibbles at Terra

After the lure of shopping wore off, the lure of happy hour kicked in. Terra of Danbury is conveniently located within the hotel. So, after a quick freshen up, we ambled downstairs and took a seat at the bar where we met José Hernandez, our bartender for the evening. José (and the rest of the Terra bar staff) will inspire and expand your cocktail palette like no other! Terra has over 30 craft cocktails, small batch and made from scratch – each one more interesting, unusual, and fantastical than the next. It was hard to decide, but with José’s help, we settled on a Danbury Social – a rum, bitters, Yuzu juice, OJ, lime, lemon grass, house-made Grenadine, pistachio number, set alight and served with a flourish. I think we clapped. So delicious, so fresh, don’t even try to recreate this at home.

Zero reasons to leave Hotel Zero.

Shortly after drink one, we met two soul sisters who we had an instant connection with; Bre and Courtney. Within seconds we were straw tasting each other’s drinks and Bre was reading our color cards (with spooky accuracy). We were enjoying ourselves so much that we canceled our dinner plans (elsewhere) and decided to order another cocktail (Ashmead kernel and Espresso martini) and some nibbles. Charcuterie and truffle fries – dinner of bloggers!

Such a fun night Terra!

Note the water in the picture – sensible drinkers we are 😉

PJs!

Because a hotel stay is not complete without a mini PJ photoshoot! These lovely jam-jams are from the latest Natori sleepwear collection.

We actually worked out…

See!

Another lovely thing about this hotel…Starbucks coffee available 24/7!

Wakey, wakey, eggs and bakey!

We had a reservation for brunch at Terra, but couldn’t resist a little bacon appetizer from the hotel’s breakfast buffet.

Until next time, Hotel Zero Degrees!
