Welcome to rest & renewal…

Ripple Float and Wellness, just inside the lobby of the Omni Hotel in New Haven, is a beautiful space with an array of services to assist their visitors with overall well-being.

They have 4 float tanks, 2 infrared saunas, a cryotherapy chamber, and massage rooms to aid muscle recovery, provide stress relief, pain management, and the exploration of the mind and spirit.

Before we get to weightless relaxation…

The check-in process

During check-in, we were asked to pick which color we wanted for our float tank experience from the light menu. We hate to leave any colors out and both went with the rainbow option.

We were also asked to choose from the Music Menu the soundtrack we wanted for our time in the tank. Ambient, classical, nature, chanting, meditation, etc. Lora went with a gentle rain, and I went for singing bowls and gongs.

Ear plugs, instructional videos, showers…it’s time to…

FLOAT!

Salt and Rainbows

Each tank is spacious, private, and intended to eliminate external stimulation for the deepest mental and physical rest possible. With just ten inches of warm water and over 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt, the salt solution is exceptionally supportive and allows any body to float effortlessly!

Taste the rainbow (but don’t actually taste it…)

Pro Tip

Once you have your bearings and feel comfortable (maybe after your first float), complete darkness and complete silence gives the deepest experience.

Imagine a blissful 90 minutes of sensory deprivation and stillness. Ahhh

Lora’s take: It’s so hard for me to reallyyyyy relax and let go. I’m often restless during massages and meditation. I have to move! But after a good talking to myself (she’s very bossy), I got settled in. I was finally able to close my eyes and chillax (the rainbow color selection I chose was so pretty to watch!). This is what we all need; a reminder to unplug, unwind, spend some “me” time. Yesssssss.

Bev’s take: I somehow snagged the double-wide, which made for an even more spacey float than the last (and only other) time I’ve floated. It was good to have “first-time floater” behind me; I was ready to switch off, relax, and enjoy being cradled in warm and salty darkness. I still have more practicing to do…it took a good 40 minutes to really turn off my mind and allow myself to fully trust that the water “had me”…but when I finally did. ZEN!

And on to our infrared sauna session!

Infrared light (experienced as heat) is the invisible part of the sun’s spectrum with the ability to penetrate your body’s tissues, giving a soothing, natural “warmth”.

When our core body temperature is raised, it produces a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where the majority of our toxins reside.

Pick a program…

We kind of liked the sound of all of them.

Getting sweaty and lit…

…by different colored therapeutic lights we were able to control. In addition, there’s also a screen where you can access and switch up the program you’re on, AND your YouTube, FaceBook, Spotify accounts.

And that’s not all…

Cool right on down and hit the Cryo chamber for an extremely cold (up to -220°F) and extremely invigorating experience. Whole Body Cryotherapy uses ultra-cold temperatures to provide quick, powerful physical recovery.

We didn’t have time to fit that one into our day. Next time, for sure!

Aprés Float/Sauna/Cryo…

Sip some complimentary tea, drink lots of water, and get ready to re-enter the world.

We so enjoyed our break!

Feeling as chill as this lovely lady ⬇️
