Restaurateurs Clark and Kate Neugold own not 1, but 3 extremely awesome (and very different from each other) restaurants in Newtown. And for the sake of the blog…we ate at not 1, but all 3 of those restaurants ?. After an extremely dry year of not eating out, this was a night to remember. Join us on our food crawl to Foundry Kitchen + Tavern, Marygold’s on Main, and Good Old Days!

Foundry Kitchen + Tavern
A very good place to start. We’ve been here many times over the years because it’s so cozy and the food is so good! A common theme in all 3 restaurants.
The Foundry was Clark and Kate Neugold’s first restaurant in the area which they took over in 2017 after returning home from living in Hawaii and South Carolina. ♥️ Sweet Fact: The two met at Immaculate High School in Danbury.
Casual, cozy, and charming
Foundry Kitchen + Tavern is housed in a historic old brick building in Sandy Hook that used to be the only general store in town. It’s industrial, rustic, and overlooks the Pootatuck River. The cuisine reflects the travels and creativity of Chef Clark and tells the story of where he and Kate have lived and worked. This is the place to go if you want real comfort food or amazing vegetarian or vegan food with the most unique flavors.
Let the nom nom nomming begin!
We went with a sampling of apps and a couple of excellent cocktails with a local twist. The menu includes apps, salads, sandwiches, and entrees to delight everyone! The drinks menu is equally as pleasing with cocktails, mocktails, Kombucha, wine, sake, draft beer, and local pours.
Marygold’s on Main
We left some room in our bellies for our next stop, Marygold’s on Main. This location also has a long and interesting history in town, in fact, Lora remembers when her sister lived in the building in the 80s! Now, you’ll find fine dining, inspiring decor, a wonderful bar, and friendly service.
Fine, simple, classy, fresh
Clark and Kate opened Marygold’s on Main in 2020 (yep!) in the old Inn at Newtown after a complete renovation, giving the restaurant a contemporary, clean look while preserving the historic New England feel. The cuisine here is inspired by Chef Clark and Chef Derek (who happen to be great friends who met while working in Charleston, SC).
Everything is made in-house. Chef Derek’s bread and pasta are incredible and his wife Molly (the General Manager and Pastry Chef) makes out of this world desserts. They source everything as locally as possible from farms that practice free-range/grass-fed/antibiotic-free/hormone-free diets.
The theme here is clean, simple, fresh, local.
Can we eat more? Yes we can.
Can we take pics and videos while we do it? Yep. ?
Everything was awesome. Besides the incredible food and bevs, we especially loved the blue round booths, the lighting, the spaciousness, and the grand bar!
Good Old Days Pizza & Cocktail Den
Directly underneath Marygold’s, you’ll find Good Old Days Pizza & Cocktail Den. Here, it’s party time! Fun vibes and yummy pizza aromas hit you the moment you walk through the door!
Nostalgic, fun, and your new favorite pizza place!
Also in 2020, Kate and Clark opened Good Old Days (or GOD!) with the CT pizza king, Matt Stanczak. The old school lights, the wallpaper, the cozy chairs, the vintage photos in the bathroom….all so fun! And then, there’s the pizza…
Oh, My, GOD! So good! It’s thin crust and square pies with the most unique toppings and freshest ingredients. Good Old Days “Cocktail Den” is also making a name for itself. Their beverage director Kyle Mastropietro and Head Bartender Shayne Bingham have created the most unique beverage program in the area!
A final FYI before we roll on home…
All 3 restaurants offer outdoor seating and unique event spaces! Foundry has a private loft that is really amazing for events. Marygold’s has three banquet rooms and is a boutique events destination. Perfect if you’re looking for a place to hold a larger event or wedding, but don’t want that “banquet hall” feeling. And they also rent out GOD pizza for after hours.
See you there!

Was nice stopping by Marygolds (Old Hawley Manor). restaurant yesterday on my way to NH. I am turning 90 yrs old and remember my teen years growing up there when my family (Bowen) owned and operated it. Lots of fond memories and history. Glad Newtown decided not to tear it down for condos. Unfortunately, Marigolds was closed when I went by maybe on my return trip in 10 days I can stop by for dinner? Bless the new owners, Clark & Kate.. I wish you all best of luck in your. venture!
