New year, new sport to try!? We recently went for a squash lesson (yes, you read that right) at Burnt Squash (you read that right, too!). Can we please tell you how much fun it is to smash that ball?! Besides fun, it’s also a great way to meet new people, get your heart rate up, and as we mentioned, WHACK a ball!
The Burnt Squash program can currently be found in 3 schools in the Lakeville/Salisbury area and caters to over 135 players in the larger area. If you’re looking to run around with friends and enjoy a new activity, give them a try.

Meet Bobby Burns
The creator of Burnt Squash, Bobby Burns, grew up in Connecticut, starting with squash at the age of 6. When he was young, he liked it more than tennis because he got to run more and hit the ball harder. As he improved, he started to compete in US Squash tournaments and quickly became obsessed!
Once a student at Hotchkiss, he realized that the sport could take him places. He played in the Junior Olympics, the US Junior Open, US Nationals, and then at Bates College.
During summers in college, he started teaching squash on Nantucket. He knew then that it was the only thing he wanted to do. In 2012, he took a role in New Canaan as an assistant pro, teaching singles and doubles lessons to men, women, and children of all ages & abilities. While in New Canaan, he started competing on the SDA Pro Tour and reached a career-high ranking of #17 in the World in 2017 and 2019!
Bobby started Burnt Squash during Covid in the Litchfield County community because he wanted to come back to the area. From the first time he came to Lakeville as a high schooler, he was touched by its charm.
Meet our squash alter egos
We didn’t know we had squash alter egos, but when Bobby told us there were some “standard squash poses,” we jumped right on board.
These are them. ⬇️
Also, this. ⬇️
Squash is meant to be capital P; Played! There’s an inherent playfulness to the sport. Everyone has some experience with the strategy from recess wall ball.
We learned the basics and took turns practicing…that ball is fast! So much fun. Bobby is an awesome coach – welcoming, encouraging, funny, and full of facts about the sport (we asked so many questions!).
