Wings Over Water

Wings Over Water provides swim lessons for all ages, lap swimming, and water walking. The business was formed over 25 years ago in Brewster, NY, opening its second location in Fairfield, CT in 2011. A third location is opening in a few months in Somers, NY.

We went along to the Fairfield location to meet the team, learn more about what they do…and take a dip (the water is good and warm!).

A focus on safety

The main focus at Wings Over Water is to teach children and adults to be safe in and around water. WOW has a special curriculum that all the Wings Over Water swim teachers use called Swimplicity

Did you know? Drowning is one of the top causes of accidental death for children, teens, and even adults in our community.

This is why WOW believes water safety education is so important in saving lives.

From children to adults

At Wings Over Water, parents can begin swimming with their babies as young as four months old.

The organization has found over the years that when parents and young children learn to swim together, the child will model their parents. If the parent is comfortable and likes swimming, the baby and young child will also usually follow the parent’s emotional and physical responses.

Every lesson incorporates safety elements. When parents are in the class, there are two students they are focused on teaching: the parent and the child. Parents are encouraged to come to group lessons, fall in love with the warm water, go underwater, and swim with their children.

What is Swimplicity?

Swimplicity – because learning to swim should be simple.

WOW’s curriculum covers learning to swim for all ages – 4 months to 99 years old! They teach adults and teens who don’t know how to swim, and often adults who want to go on vacation or perhaps go snorkeling and yet never learned how to swim.

Their super warm pool water is wonderful as a learning environment (students spend more time learning and less time trying to stay warm!). Lap swimmers love the warm water as well. They also have adults and teens who come and do water exercise, water rehab, water walking, and lap swimming.

Mention us when you sign up!

Unlocking CT readers (and new customers) will get a $50 gift certificate to use towards signing up for swim lessons (sign up for at least one month of lessons).

One last thing…

Wings Over Water swim lessons are available to sign up and begin at any time during the month. They have a very flexible registration system that allows a swimmer to join mid-month and start immediately with their lessons. Their billing will automatically prorate the month. They can also now bill every month, helping make lessons an affordable option for all families!
